CUs Partner to Clean Up The Arboretum

To celebrate Earth Day 2011, staff and members from SMCU partnered with the same from Verity Credit Union to help clean up the Washington Park Arboretum. Directed by the Student Conservation Association, volunteers spent the day eradicating invasive species that can threaten the health of the Arboretum ecosystem, as well as a host of other reclamation projects to help ready the Arboretum for another fabulous Pacific Northwest summer.

T-Shirt Back-Principle 6 Cooperation Among Cooperatives Is VitalFifty volunteers were treated to great-looking t-shirts created just for the event that were co-branded by SMCU and Verity CU. Being able to demonstrate the power of cooperatives working together to bring about positive change in our community was a powerful message for all of the volunteers to take with them from the event.

Thanks to Sasha at Verity Credit Union and Camille here at SMCU for setting this day up, to Caskey Designs for designing the shirts and to all of the volunteers who made this day such a huge success.
