Don’t Fall for “Your Card Has Been Suspended!” Email

SMCU has been made aware of another phishing email making the rounds. This one purports to be from ‘verifed by visa’ and claims that a user’s VISA® or MasterCard account has been suspended. The email states that only by clicking a link in the email to “verify your identity” can your account service be continued uninterrupted. The email includes a Case ID number and the Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode logos.

fraudulent email

Do not click on the links in this email. It is another fraudulent attempt to capture personal financial data and is not legitimate. SMCU will never ask you to verify your information by clicking on a link on an unsolicited email.

As always, be on the lookout for emails like this one. If you ever question the authenticity of an email that seems to come from SMCU or one of its partners, call our Contact Center or visit any SMCU branch. Branch reps can tell you whether or not the email is legitimate.
