E-Scam Warning: Lawyers’ Identities Being Used for Fake Websites and Solicitations

A scam has recently surfaced in which the identity of an attorney from Texas, who had not practiced in years, was used to set up a fake law firm website. Other attorneys have complained about the use of their names and other professional information by similar fake law firm sites looking to solicit legal work. In order to protect yourself, do your due diligence when searching for a legal firm; and be sure the firm you are considering is registered with your state’s bar association and provides current contact information (including a current address). If you become aware of a similar fake site, do not do business of any kind through the site and report your findings to the International Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
