Free Shred Day: April 23rd, 10am to 2pm

It’s back again, by popular demand. SMCU is celebrating Earth Day 2011 with a free Shred Day for members. This year we’ll be shredding at FIVE of our branch locations!

What can I shred?

If you have a box of sensitive documents you’ve been meaning to throw away, or a file cabinet full of paperwork you need to get rid of, this is the day you’ve been waiting for. Bring up to two boxes or one bag of documents or sensitive materials (including CDs, expired credit cards, etc.).

Take a look at this list of items you may not have considered shredding.

I would like to participate in Shred Day on 4/23. I have never participated before and was wondering if you shred the papers, etc,.. on site or do it at your company location ? I ask because I was a victim of identity theft several years ago and am still a bit leary about someone having access to my personal information, even though I have ID theft protection. Thank you for your reply. Julie Borrows

There will be a Shred-It shred truck located in the parking lot of the designated branch locations and all materials are securely and professionally shredded on-site. You are more than welcome to wait and watch your documents get loaded into the shredder so you can be confident in the security of the process.

At Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union we take identity theft and document security very seriously and have a long standing relationship with our shredding vendor. So sorry to hear of the unfortunate violation of your personal information but we are confident that your sensitive documents will be handled and disposed of with care and certainty.

Thank you for your interest in Shred Day and confidence in Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union.

Will the Shred-it company require that paperclips and staples be removed prior to shredding ?

Do I have to be a member?

    • SMCU says:

You do not have to be a member of Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union to participate. All members of the community are welcome.

If you are interested in membership and would like more information, all participating branch locations will be open during the event.
