More and more people have INTENTIONALLY LEFT their BANK and come to Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union where we are guided by the 7 Cooperative Principles that make us strong and secure. Look for “Intentionally Left Bank” billboards, bus ads and print ads appearing this month. If you happen to see a billboard or a bus ad, send us a photo! Are you one of the thousands of members who intentionally left your old bank to enjoy the credit union difference? Let us know!

i absolutely left a commercial bank when I became eligible for membership in the Credit Union. Mmmh, and that bank hasn’t existed for years.

I left my bank after years of being treated like a stranger. Anything I needed from advice to bill consolidation I could never do at my last bank and SMCU took care of us as soon as we walked into the door, we will never leave this bank they are great, and they remember my name!

(Intentionally left bank) It’s corny and I LOVE it!

  4. Daron says:

Good work on the ad! I saw it on SMCU.com last night and I initially thought that the website was in the process of updating. When I looked a little closer I realized that was not the case. Whoever thought of this had a great idea!

Wow! I saw this billboard the other day, and it really caught my attention! SMCU must have a good marketing team!

I left WAMU for SMCU eight years ago after if finally dawned on me that I didn’t have to take the soulless treatment I received there. Then I transferred my mortgage after it got bundled and sold to Citigroup (I hate Citigroup). In addition to great service and community support with SMCU, in light of the economic meltdown how wonderfully prudent those two moves turned out to be!

  8. Chris Lemoine says:

I think the ad is smart and inspired. Left Bank of America many years ago to join SMCU. All of our house and car loans and the rest of the SMCU experience has been fabulous. If there’s an issue, resolution is usually immediate. Everybody’s one deals with is prompt, professional and friendly.

  9. Larry Webinger says:

I left a bank because I didn’t like the service they gave me. That was many years ago.

  10. Jessi says:

I left WAMU more recently–right before the financial crisis hit. I am so glad. I was feeling the customer service getting further and further away from me. I always feel like the top priority at SMCU.

I’m a prodigal son and I must bsay it feels good to be back. The convenience of having more locations is really offset by the number of credit unions that share their ATM’s, not to mention the far superior benefits and member services!

  12. Andy says:

I left WAMU after they installed floor to ceiling bullet proof glass. Failing to remembering my name after a year wasn’t too cool either.

  13. Anne says:

I left WAMU in November, but I’d been dissatisfied for a while. I joined WAMU in 1997 because they had that *local* feel. The last two times I called their Customer Service Dept. I was connected to the Philippines and Arizona.

I left Key Bank years ago when they started talking about charging you a quarter every time you used a debit card. I’m glad I did – Kanani at Kirkland has taken a lot of time over the years to educate my growing children about all kinds of accounts, the importance of building and keeping a good credit history and how to do it. She, and everyone else I’ve dealt with at SMCU, is awesome. Keep it up!

SMCU is remarkable credit union. A cooperator at WSECU shared a photo of your billboard with the Credit Union Development Educator list yesterday. Credit unions around the world are talking about your campaign and holding it up as brilliant!
My left bank: Years ago I left Huntington Bank in Ohio to join Dover-Phila Credit Union. Way to empower a movement!

  16. Stacey says:

I left Wachovia after 4 years of being ignored or transferred out for the smallest inquiries!!!! The final straw was when I lost my checkbook and they had allowed someone to cash a high dollar check, after I had them put a hold on ALL checks!

  17. Anthony W. says:

Nice ad, and I love the freedom I have with you guys, keep up the good work. Ex BOA customer.

  18. Lisa says:

I love it!! Nice job. It’s a win for Seattle Metropolitan and credit unions everywhere!

  19. Gordon Adams says:

I left Bank of America after being annoyed with their charges and pretty shoddy service at the Stone Way branch. My wife had used SMCU for years, and I’m a believer now.

  20. Krystle says:

I left BOA after horrible customer service! I have never looked back I love SMCU!

  21. Brandee says:

I have been with SMCU for 3 months and it’s the best move I’ve made since leaving BOA. They were terrible and you guys are teriffic!!

  22. Cheryl Turpin says:

I left US Bank in 1999 and have never looked back.

  23. KH says:

My husband and I left Bank of America-aprox 5 years ago. Joined SMCU, we love the fact we have a “voice”-able to vote for your board of director and other officers. Your customers, all of us help the direction in which you the credit union make you service decisions. We love the service, customer service, and products. We would never go back to a bank!

  24. Leonard Ross says:

I have been with SMCU for many years. Car, trailer & personal loans, but it seemed like home loan should be trhough a bank. I went with WAMU to thank them for not charging ATM fees. Well, that changed & then they were bought out. If I wanted East Coast Banking, I would live in New York! My home is now financed through SMCU, always a great place to do business.

  25. north says:

I left WaMu so long ago that I don’t even remember what prompted me to switch. My parents always used credit unions for good reason. SMCU is great!
