Is There a Difference? SMCU Members Think So.

SMCU takes a great deal of pride in being a business where people can get the banking services they need without the headache and greed that comes with having an account at a big national bank. As a member-owned financial cooperative, SMCU strives to ensure that our members get the best deal available on financial services. Does that difference in philosophy really make a difference in how our members view their financial institution? We’ll let them tell you in their own words.

“I joined SMCU 2 years ago when I moved to Seattle, and I have only good things to say about my experience. You guys pay better interest than any savings account or even CD you can find these days for small amounts of money, and I love being able to interact with friendly people at your branches. I can also use ATMs from BECU and other co-op network locations with no fees. We were even able to get a cashier’s check from a co-op network partner in San Francisco last year! And you got us a great rate on a car loan that was way better than what the dealer had given us. I’ve never had any surprise fees or unpleasantness, and I love using your website to pay my bills and manage my accounts. Thanks for being so great! I’m proud to be a member.” – Julia D.S.

I absolutely love Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union and always have. I moved to Seattle in 2003 and opened my account with them soon after. When I have made a mistake, Seattle Metropolitan has been so forgiving and the people who work in the downtown branch are honestly the nicest people. I really don’t understand why anyone would want to continue to hold any kind of an account with a bank and that includes CHASE.” –Kelly

“I’ve been a member for many years, since the days when it was only open to City of Seattle employees. You have grown tremendously in sophistication and services, and the experience gets better and better. You show what a difference being non-profit makes; and why our whole economy should be run that way!” – Megan C.

“I have been a happy customer at SMCU for years and have referred family and friends as well. I feel I get superior service, better interest on savings and loans, and [I] don’t have to pay fees on everything like my friends who keep their money at the big banks. I closed my Chase credit card because they were always trying to sneak on fees even though I always paid on time in full. I recommend credit unions to everyone. “ – Ed B.

“When I found out that SMCU gives great personal, friendly services and by definition endeavors to support the community without the corporate ‘greed’ motive, the decision was easy to leave B of A!” – Robert C.

“I have been with SMCU for 8+ years and all forms of support (phone, website, face-to-face) have been nothing short of helpful and amazing!! They have helped me in so many ways, and for that, I say thank you!!” – Jason Y.

If you’ve had a great experience with SMCU, tell us about it.

Send us an email at voice@smcu.com. Then, tell your friends and neighbors. The more people who use your co-op, the stronger it becomes.

Please bring back pay it forward! I know plenty of people who say they would make an account if they get reffered. This way we will earn many new members based on the responses I got! If you want pay it forward back, let the community know!

Chase was horrible. All these banks just want our money. Its a good thing I came here. That referal really helped. Ever since I started using a real credit union, its been great.
