Regarding the SMCU app. I have a Windows Phone. Is the app available for that type of mobile device? It’s a Nokia Lumia 521 from T-Mobile, to be specific.

    • SMCU says:

Great question, Kent. Unfortunately the SMCU mobile app is only available for Apple, Android, and Kindle devices. We currently do not have plans to release a Windows version. To access Online Banking from your Windows phone, you can visit m.smcu.com in any browser for an enhanced mobile experience.

I was very interested in seeing you had a mobile app! I have two comments:

    1. Make the logo on the app bigger… use just the “S” for the icon in the Google Play store, currently the logo includes all the text, & that requires so much white space that the logo gets lost.

    2. Why on Earth does this app need access to my Camera (“take pics & video”, “at any time w/o my confirmation”?!?), all my Contacts, & to directly call phone numbers??

Sorry, too invasive. Not installing. Dial that stuff back & I’ll reconsider.

Thank you for your feedback, Neil. The app needs access to your camera to deposit checks remotely, a feature that will be available this spring. As for accessing the “phone” part of your mobile device, this is for the “call SMCU” feature of the app, which allows you to reach our Contact Center at the touch of button.

AT LAST! SMCU has entered the 21st century with a mobile app. This has made my day! Thank you!

  4. Craig says:

I live and work in South Korea. The verification for the app is a “1” country code for the USA. Can I change it to reflect South Korea or am I out of luck in using the app?

    • SMCU says:

Great question, Craig! You cannot complete the verification process using your South Korean phone number. What you can do is set up a free account through Google Voice, which allows you to own a US phone number and have any messages you receive through this number forwarded to your phone.

Here’s a quick step-by-step of how to set this up:

      1. Go to https://www.google.com/voice. Enter your South Korean number in the “forwarding phone” field.
      2. Click “call me now” and verify your phone number.
      3. Enter any area code or sequence of numbers to find an available phone number. Select one from the US and click “continue.” This phone number is now yours.
      4. Log into SMCU’s Online Banking and select “My Settings” in the top righthand corner.
      5. Add your new Google Voice phone number under “Login and Security.”

You should now be able to authenticate the app by choosing to receive the verification code through your Google Voice number. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  5. why is it impossible to find a page on your website to allow me to sign in to my accounts for the first time? ? ? ? there are pages and of pages of all kinds of good PR banking crap, and even this site that tells me I can down load SOMETHING???? I am an 72 year old consumer, I must make numerous phone calls to smcu, and even a half hour of phone conversation with your phone bankers denied me access to my accounts. Folks, wouldn’t it be nice if all this computer garbage actually had one little area for me to sign in for my first time? this web site design is stupid

    • SMCU says:

      Thomas,

We’re sincerely sorry for the frustration you’re experiencing. The login box for online banking is on our homepage (smcu.com). In the middle of the page, there is a dark blue bar that says “Online Banking” with fields for you to enter your username and password.

If you are logging in for the first time, your username will be your member number, and your password will be the last 4 digits of your social security number.

Thank you for your membership and please let us know if you have any other questions.
