Online Banking Upgrade 6/27

the new look of online banking

Better visibility, better control, better decision-making.

At Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union, we’re always striving to improve our services and offer top tier financial products for our members. That’s why, on June 27th, SMCU’s Online Banking is being redesigned and upgraded to provide Online Banking users the most up-to-date Online Banking experience. The new Online Banking homepage will provide our members access to their accounts, transactions and financial tools — all from one location. The upgrade will also provide increased visibility into their finances, with a new Account History page that makes account information even easier to find.

Online Banking has been redesigned to give you an entirely new and more efficient money-management experience. On June 27th, when you log-in to Online Banking, this is what you’ll see:

This new home page is cleaner and provides a much clearer snapshot of your finances right from the start. From this new homepage you’ll be able to:

  • Review all of your accounts, balances and recent transactions in one place
  • See a snapshot of your recent transactions with a Quick Peek function.
  • Transfer funds between accounts in seconds — with the Make A Transfer button and new direct links.
  • Pay bills on time with ease, with reminders and the ability to set up recurring payments
  • View transaction information on a new Account History page that’s even easier to use

There’s no action required on your part for the upgrade to take effect. Just sit back and enjoy your new SMCU Online Banking experience.

will a person be able to make additional payments to the principal of their mortgage without having to make a call to have it transfered?

    • SMCU says:

Thanks for the question, Karen. At this point, the process of making mortgage payments through Online Banking will not change. However, we are working to allow you to make additional principal payments online and hope to have that feature available as soon as possible.

  2. Melissa says:

Will this change how Quicken accesses my account?

    • SMCU says:

Great question, Melissa. This update changes the way Online Banking looks and how you interact with it on our site, but it doesn’t change any of the underlying functionality. You should still be able to use Quicken with your SMCU accounts the same way you do now.

  3. Ross says:

will I be able to pay my credit card bill online from an account at another bank?

    • SMCU says:

Unfortunately, Ross, this update does not include the ability to pay your SMCU credit card from another institution from within Online Banking. Thank you for the question.

Will the new design allow us to see specific pending transactions? That is a feature I’ve been dying for!

    • SMCU says:

Thank you for the question, Kaye. This particular update does not include the ability to view pending transactions.

  5. Chris Osterhout says:

Does this mean all my old auto loan accounts that have been paid off will get cleared out too?

    • SMCU says:

Chris, paid loans aren’t automaticaly hidden, but there is a way to hide them so they don’t show up in your Account Access screen. To hide them go to the “User Options” section and click the “Change Account Nicknames” link. There you will see a list of all of your accounts. To hide any of them, simply uncheck the box in the “Enable” column and click the “Change” button. When you go back to the Account Access area, you will no longer see those accounts.

I hope that helps. Thank you for the question.

do NOT like your new format. Was just getting used to the old one and was comfortable with that. Hate the new format

    • SMCU says:

Thank you for the feedback, Phil. We are pretty excited about the change. We know it will take some getting used to, but we think it will make using Online Banking much faster and easier for you. We hope you find that to be true. If you have questions once the update rolls out, please call our Contact Center at 206-398-5500.

Is this upgrade the same upgrade that Watermark CU just upgraded to with Sound CU this month? There are several disappointments in the Sound CU online banking platform that I use for another organization. For example, it doesn’t allow you to view check images for checks you have written that have cleared.

    • SMCU says:

Krystal, SMCU uses a different online banking platform than Sound/Watermark does, so this update is unrelated to theirs. Your ability to view your cancelled checks from within your transaction history should be unaffected.

      • Krystal says:

Great, thats good to hear. Although the screen shots that have been posted for this upgrade look identical to the new platform Sound CU is using. Thanks for the clarification.

  9. Torin says:

Will a person now be able to see their pending transactions (when they use their debit card as credit)? U.S. Bank has this feature, but I have yet to see anyone else implement this.

    • SMCU says:

Torin, this upgrade will not provide us the ability to show your pending transactions. Thank you for the question.

  10. Dennis says:

I never did like having to go back-and-forth (clicking and clicking)between my separate accounts. From the screen shots, showing the new look, it looks like you’ve taken care of this hassle. One question: Will it be easier to view past checking/saving transactions more quickly? The current method is a bit bothersome. Looking forward to the upgrade.

    • SMCU says:

Dennis, aside from being able to view recent transactions from the online banking home page, you will also be able to view your past transactions more easily. Rather than having to enter dates, you will be able to simply click a back/forward arrow to see transactions. We think this will make viewing your account history much easier. Here is a screenshot that shows the new transactions screen. New Online Banking Transaction Screen

Any plans for a mobile app to follow?

    • SMCU says:

DJ, there are no plans for an SMCU-specific app at this time. However, there is an app available through getsprig.com that will allow you access your SMCU accounts to check balances, view transactions, and make transfers. iPhone users can also use the app to remotely deposit checks. Thanks for the question.

  12. Jason K says:

Does this mean we won’t have access to out accounts through online banking for that day or longer ?

  13. Josh Jones says:

Thank you for updating the interface! I appreciate your attention to detail.

  14. Joan says:

Every tine you change the format it is like starting all over. You change so often, always for the better, I am still waiting for the better. I am with Phil, stop changing and I usually hate the new changes and face total frustration.

  15. Paul Bonin says:

You did a great job protecting access to my account by intruders. Now I’ll be happy if you let me access the account.

    • SMCU says:

Hi Paul! The Contact Center reports that they were able to help you with this. Hope everything is good again. Please let us know if have any trouble!
