Have you ever wondered about starting a co-op? Are you interested in learning more about how to successfully manage a cooperative organization or in discussing the issues that co-ops face?
On Friday, October 21, and Saturday, October 22, our friends at Central Co-op are presenting the 3rd Annual SLICE Conference (Strengthening Local Independent Co-ops Everywhere). SLICE’s mission is to encourage the development of sustainable co-ops and to promote social and environmental justice.
SLICE will feature keynote speakers, Eric Bowman of the Northwest Cooperative Development Center and Margaret Lund, the former director of the Northcounty Cooperative Development Fund. Mr. Bowman will speak about the opportunities the current economic environment provides for co-op development and how co-ops can enrich their roles in the American economy. Ms. Lund is an independent consultant specializing in community development finance and shared ownership strategies.
There will also be breakout sessions dealing with different areas of co-op development and economic concern, including a discussion of the limitations co-ops create for themselves and how to start a food-buying club in your community.
