Columbus Day Isn’t a Holiday for the Cooperators

Columbus Day was a federal holiday. That didn’t mean that SMCU employees took the day off, though. For a second year, the SMCU Cooperators took advantage of the day to spend time giving back to some wonderful local organizations.

Hosted by Northwest comedy legend Pat Cashman, Co-opalooza is a celebration of cooperatives and the wonderful things that they do for their communities. Co-ops from around the region and across the country will participate in this one-of-a-kind festival showcasing the different types of co-ops as well as the wide variety of industries they represent.

CUs Partner to Clean Up The Arboretum

SMCU Celebrates Earth Day with Cooperation

Of all the Cooperative Principles, perhaps the most unusual and inspiring is Principle #6, Cooperation Among Cooperatives. When co-ops join forces, we accomplish some amazing things. What better time to celebrate cooperation for the greater good than on Earth Day!

On Saturday, April 23, Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union, Verity Credit Union and Seattle REI will partner with the Student Conservation Association, UW Botanic Gardens and Seattle Parks and Recreation for a day of fun restoration projects at the Washington Park Arboretum.

SMCU Co-operators Give Back

Monday was Columbus Day, a federal holiday when many financial institutions are closed. SMCU branches were also closed on Columbus Day, but SMCU employees were still hard at work demonstrating the seventh cooperative principle, giving back to the community.

SMCU Raises $1,400 For Food Lifeline During Food Frenzy

Fresh off an amazing Saturday of volunteering at Food Lifeline, employees of Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union tried their hand at fund-raising as part of Food Lifeline’s Food Frenzy Summer Funds Drive. Between July 12 and July 23, 2010, SMCU employees participated in an in-house auction the proceeds of which benefited Food Lifeline.
